International Groomer Operator of the Year
2003 Groomer

Each year at the International Snowmobile Congress, a groomer operator is chosen from each ofthe three Chapters of the International Snowmobile Council and honered by Arctic Cat as the (Groomer Operator of the Year.)
To carry this program one step further, the INTERNATIONAL GROOMER OPERATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD was developed with the cooperation of the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame and Arctic Cat to give credit to one of these groomer operators. They put so much time and energy into the sport and are seldom recognized for all they do for snowmobiling.
This years selection was made up of two Snowmobile Program Coodinators, two groomer operators and one DNR Administrator and they have chosen Franis Pelkey from Marble, Minnesota (Itasca County) to receive the prestigious award of being named Internatinal Groomer Operator of the Year for 2003.
A member of the Greenway Snowmobile Club since 1968, designed and built the clubs first 144 miles trails, which may have been the first Grand-In-Aid Trail System in Minnesota. He then went out to be trail boss, groomer trainer, bridge construction crew chief, maintenance manager as well as being involved and coordinator of March of Dimes and MS Charity Rides. Arranging for rides for developmentally disabled riders, and training people for Youth Safety Certificate Snowmobile Classes are among some of his extra special projects.
Involved locally with the club, and with the Itasca County Alliance, MnUSA functions, meetings and seminars keep his schedule full.
At 74 years youing he is still the #1 groomer operator for the Greenway Snowmobile Club.
